“Marauders?” Ligan looked at me in disbelief. “Did she bring the whole family?”

I shook my head, unsure, and we listened as the song repeated. One of the girls called to her father to stop it, and he took the button. A moment later, the sound stopped.

I looked at Tom. “Is it a marauder song?”

“It sounds like an ancient style of music, one that I vaguely remember from somewhere. Most likely it is. I think it’s what we’ve been looking for, too,” he answered.

“Really? How?”

“It gives hints to the location of the colony, and as soon as we’re finished with Pacíficus, I think we’ll be able to narrow down our search.”

“You know where they are? Why wait? Let’s go get them now.”

“I said that it’s a clue. I doubt that you could move hundreds of thousands of people in an hour, and we can jump there in minutes rather than the days that it will take that woman to return. If this was a clue that we are meant to find after they abandoned the place, they will have already left it. We can wait.”

“Where are they? What did they give us?”

“We don’t know where they are yet. This just hints to the system. The song says that they are in a system with “a pale blue eye”.

“A blue star. How many are there in the charted systems?” I asked.

“Quite a few, but we will be able to narrow it down, and we can check all of the ones within a couple of hundred light years soon. If we just jump and check, maybe we can do more than one per day. The thing that will slow us down will be Little Rain’s inability to make multiple jumps in quick succession. I know that they are difficult on her, so we shouldn’t push her too hard. I’ll get a list of star systems right away, and we’ll get started. We’regoing to find them, Skipper.”
